Gibraltar-Washpool Adventure Ride

August 13, 2016

To borrow a phrase form a well known adventurer, Sir Edmund Hillary, its time to knock this “b—–d” off!

This is a serious adventure ride for strong riders and requires mental, physical and logistical preparation. Be prepared for some varied and hard riding over some technical terrain at times.

Anyone definitely interested please SMS Pete E. on 0438233228 so we can get an idea on firm numbers and availability of vehicles for travel to and from.

Pete E. is also calling for at least two other people with leadership and/or administrative skills to help with coordination which will occur via meeting (so let me know if you want to help out with the planning and preparation).

You can access all the info and maps from the National Parks site. A gold coin donation per rider should nearly take care of the $8.00 per vehicle day fee.

The mission is to ride through Gibraltar NP along the World Heritage Loop anticlockwise from the start point at Mulligan’s Hut Campground (day use area) and finishing at the same point via Washpool NP.  The length is around 45km, but there are also side trails that might be worth a look so allow at least 5 – 6 hours for the ride.

We will meet at 05:30am and depart the Info Centre (Rafters) at 06:00am to arrive around 07:45am. If all goes well, we should be departing for Guyra at around 2-3:00pm to be home by 4-5:00pm (depending on whether make it past the Red Lion Tavern at Glencoe!).

Suggested Personal Kit List:

  • bike and helmet :o)
  • spare tubes x2 (its a long walk out!!!)
